Report of Falling Walls Lab Mongolia 2025 -The ideas of young scientists are ready to reach the global stage

New ideas shaping the future of science and innovation were presented on the stage of the Falling Walls Lab Mongolia 2025 forum on September 12, 2025, where the nation’s top young innovators were announced.Young researchers unveiled their breakthrough ideas to “break the wall” in a three-minute pitch, creating a unique atmosphere of inspiration, competition, and discovery.

At the opening ceremony, official partners and representatives of Falling Walls Lab Mongolia delivered speeches, offering encouragement and inspiration to the participants.

Munkhtor Batbold, Head of the Department of Science and Technology Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Economy and Development, stated: Falling Walls is a rare and valuable platform for sharing innovative ideas and advanced solutions at the international level. The Government of Mongolia is prioritizing science, technology, and innovation as key pillars of national development and is committed to empowering young talents to reach the global stage. This event is not just about presenting ideas, it is a launching pad for turning them into real impact.”

Hanna Becker, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mongolia, stated: “We are truly delighted that through the joint efforts of all the organizers of Falling Walls Lab Mongolia, a platform has been created for young Mongolian scientists and researchers to present their innovative ideas across all fields of science. In tackling global challenges such as climate change, public health, and social inequality, it is essential to seek new ideas and creative, innovative solutions. Everyone gathered here today marks the starting point of change through their ideas. We are proud that Mongolian youth are being given the opportunity to believe in their dreams and share them with the world.” She concluded her remarks by inspiring the young participants with Gandhi’s famous words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Prof. Dr. Battsengel Baatar, Rector of GMIT and Head of the Jury forFalling Walls Lab Mongolia, noted: “Since 2019, we have been organizing Falling Walls Lab Mongolia in collaboration with Arts & Media Project Management & Consulting NGO, providing young researchers and professionals with opportunities to showcase their work on the global stage. Our previous winners have successfully presented in Berlin on pressing issues such as climate change, air pollution, and recycling technologies, proudly representing Mongolia. This year, we are once again delighted to witness fresh, innovative ideas and outstanding scientific achievements.”

This year, out of 16 shortlisted participants, 12 young researchers advanced to the final stage of the forum. Among them, three were Mongolian doctoral and master’s students currently studying and conducting research abroad in countries such as Italy, Belgium, and Finland. The speeches this year covered a wide range of topics, including environmental sustainability, new energy solutions, urban planning challenges, educational accessibility, and artificial intelligence—further reaffirming Falling Walls Lab Mongolia as a true “laboratory of new ideas” across diverse disciplines. As part of the Engage X Science Communication Program, organizations such as DAAD, Science Café Mongolia, and the National IT Park shared their experiences in promoting science to the public, enriching the forum’s atmosphere even further. Additionally, Daniel Matysiak, DAAD representative and lecturer at the National University of Mongolia, captivated the audience with a presentation introducing scholarship opportunities in Germany for master’s and doctoral studies, as well as for academic and research exchanges.

The national winner, Erchissaran Ganbold, received an invitation to compete alongside 100 of the world’s top innovators from more than 60 countries at the Falling Walls Lab International Finale in Berlin, and successfully delivered her pitch on Falling Walls Science Summit stage on November 6th. Where she got a chance to engage directly with leading scientists, business leaders, and policymakers from around the world. It was a valuable chance for her to build professional connections and learn from the world’s top 20 most groundbreaking scientific achievements across all disciplines.

Falling Walls Lab Mongolia 2025’s national winner Erchissaran Ganbold is a chemist who began researching paper production from dung in 2021 right from her own kitchen, aiming to contribute to eco-friendly manufacturing. Today, her work has been successfully implemented, introducing a variety of paper products to the market. In 2023, she established Ré Paper Studio, which produces paper from dung, fabric waste, and other materials in an environmentally friendly way without cutting down a single tree.

At this year’sFalling Walls Science Summit, Ms. Batchimeg Gungaa, Counselor at the Embassy of Mongolia in Germany, as well as Oyuntuya Oyunjargal, Cultural Envoy of Mongolia in Germany and General Organizer of Falling Walls Lab Mongolia, attended the summit to support the national winner, Erchissaran Ganbold.

Falling Walls Lab Mongolia is not just a competition, it serves as an important bridge for the exchange of science and innovation, encouraging new ideas and launching young researchers onto the global stage.

The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia 2025 forum was organized by the Science and Technology Fund, Arts, Media Project Management & Consulting NGO, and German-Mongolian Institute for Resource and Technology. It was supported in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Development of Mongolia, Cultural Envoy of Mongolia Oyuntuya O., DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service, National University of Mongolia, and INWES – International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists.
