GISE at the Technical session of UN COPUOS 2024

Gender barrier perception In Science and Engineering (GISE) was presented at the 67th Committee On the Peaceful Use of Outer Space (COPUOS) Meeting. Jung Sun Kim, Immediate Past President of INWES and delegate from the Republic of Korea (ROK) to the 2024 COPUOS meeting, delivered a pre-recorded presentation on June 21st. The presentation was part of a technical session titled “Measuring gender barrier perceptions in the space sector in Korea.” Earlier this year, Sarah Peers, President of INWES signed an MOU to partner with KWSE and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) to initiate the GISE study focusing on the space sector. The 2024 study aims to serve as a pilot for Korea, with hopes of expanding it to the international space community from 2025. This study is part of a three-year project agreed upon by the Ministry of Science and ICT of ROK, the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA), facilitated through KARI’s involvement with the UN Space4Women project. Addressing the participation of women in the space sector is essential for advancing gender equality and improving gender balance in the global space workforce, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
