The International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES) has learned with great sadness of the passing of Prof. Chia Li Wu, former Director of the Board of INWES.
Prof. Wu was a respected leader, distinguished scientist, and exemplary advocate of gender equality in science and engineering. She founded the Society of Taiwan Women in Science and Technology (TWiST) which is one of the most valuable members of INWES. She was vital in successfully hosting the APNN meeting in Taiwan, both in 2013 and 2020. While serving as Chair of APNN from 2018 to 2020, she supported VAFIW of Vietnam and WISE-Nepal of Nepal in hosting the APNN meetings in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Her devoted service to the advancement in science and international networks of women scientists and engineers will be remembered and honored.
As a person, she was a radiant, passionate and cheerful woman who was much appreciated by all. She was humble and friendly but not afraid to speak the truth and in making a logical decision.
On behalf of the board of directors and members of INWES, and as a friend of Chia Li, I would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy to her husband, Dr. Tseng, her daughter Qingping and her son Qingzong.
Thank you Chia Li for your contribution and service for empowering women and girls in science and engineering in Taiwan, in Asia and around the world, and for have taken a big part in fulfilling the mission of INWES in “building a better future worldwide through full and effective participation of women and girls in STEM.” We will miss you.
Rest in peace.
Professor Jung Sun Kim, Ph. D.
INWES President, 2021-2023
