We are honoured to inform you of the opening of the call for nominations for the fourth edition of the UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences.
The Circular Letter 4533 sent to all Ministers responsible for relations with UNESCO, with the Statutes of the Prize, is attached for ease of reference.
The Prize aims to reward major achievements in research, education and international cooperation in the basic sciences for sustainable development.
It shall be awarded annually to two individual prize-winners for achievements that are conducive to socio-economic transformation and development on a global or regional scale, based on:
1. excellence in research in the basic sciences fields;
2. basic sciences education and popularization;
3. international or regional cooperation in the basic sciences.
The Prize consists of a monetary reward of US $250,000 for each of the two winners. A gold medal and a diploma will also be awarded to each of the recipients.
All applications must be submitted online via a dedicated template available on the Application Process’s webpage, by 15 March 2026 at the very latest, in English or French.

Nous sommes honorés de vous informer du lancement de l’appel à candidatures pour la quatrième édition du Prix international UNESCO-Russie Mendeleïev en sciences fondamentales.
Veuillez trouver ci-jointe la lettre circulaire 4533 envoyée aux Ministres chargés des relations avec l’UNESCO ainsi que les statuts du prix.
Ce prix vise à récompenser les grandes réalisations dans le domaine de la recherche, l’éducation et la coopération internationale dans le domaine des sciences fondamentales pour le développement durable.
Il sera décerné chaque année à deux lauréat(e)(s) pour leurs réalisations qui favorisent la transformation et le développement socioéconomiques à l’échelle mondiale ou régionale, en récompensant:
- l’excellence dans la recherche dans les sciences fondamentales ;
- l’enseignement et la vulgarisation des sciences fondamentales ;
- la coopération internationale ou régionale dans les sciences fondamentales.
Le prix consiste en une récompense de 250 000 dollars des États-Unis décernée à chacun des deux lauréat(e)(s). Chaque lauréat(e) recevra également une médaille d’or et un diplôme.
Toutes les candidatures doivent être soumises en ligne via un modèle dédié disponible sur la page web Procédure de candidature, au plus tard le 15 mars 2026, en anglais ou en français.
